CNN’s Don Lemon admonished Tucker Carlson for what he called an “anti-diversity” monologue the FOX News host delivered on the Friday broadcast of his program. Lemon on Monday night hosted a panel segment to discuss the “outrage” over Carlson’s rant.

“Outrage spreading over FOX News host Tucker Carlson’s recent anti-diversity rant,” Lemon opened the segment.

“Criticism was swift and scathing on social media,” Lemon reported. “Twitter calling Tucker racist.”

“He insists he’s not a racist,” Lemon said before the commercial break for this segment.

The offending statement by Carlson?

TUCKER CARLSON: How precisely is diversity our strength? … Can you think, for example, of other institutions such as marriage or military units in which the less people have in common the more cohesive they are? Do you get along with your neighbors or co-workers if you can’t understand each other or share no common values?

CNN commentator Bakari Sellers likened Carlson to Bull Connor. Sellers, however, was able to restrain himself from calling Carlson a “racist” because he has yet to meet him in person.

“There was a time in this country when individuals used to use bullhorns, waterhoses but now those same individuals wear Brooks Brothers suits and get late night cable T.V. shows,” Sellers said. “I think that this a vein of white nationalism. I think that Tucker Carlson — I don’t know him personally so I don’t want to call him racist — but he’s trafficking in the political currency — the same political currency that the president uses, which is racism. Because what he just said was probably the most asinine, ignorant thing that I think that anybody gets actually paid to actually say.”

“He’s standing by his statement, defending it on Twitter,” Lemon reported.

2/6 Here are the words from our segment: “How precisely is diversity our strength? Can you think of other institutions, such as marriage or military units, in which the less people have in common, the more cohesive they are?”— Tucker Carlson (@TuckerCarlson) September 9, 2018
4/6 These are the questions our leaders out to be asking every day. How does a nation of 325 million people hang together? What do we all have in common as Americans? Why should we remain a country? Nothing is more important than answering this.— Tucker Carlson (@TuckerCarlson) September 9, 2018
6/6 What’s at stake isn’t a cable news segment. It’s the existence of rational conversation in America. If they can prevent you from asking honest questions, there’s nothing they can’t do. More on this tomorrow night.— Tucker Carlson (@TuckerCarlson) September 9, 2018
