Michelle Obama hosted 51 students and four dance icons for an African dance workshop at the White House on Monday to celebrate Black History Month.
The first lady emphasized the importance of hard work in dance and equated it to the discipline necessary in all aspects of life, especially school.
She spoke about growing up in a poor family in Chicago and how she knew that working hard in school would be her ticket to college. She said focusing on education enabled her to attend Princeton University and then Harvard Law School.
