Representative Chris Collins (R-NY) vowed to continue his campaign for re-election after insider trading charges Wednesday. At a news conference, Collins called the charges “meritless” promising to “mount a vigorous defense in court to clear my name.”

REP. CHRIS COLLINS (R-NY): The charges that have been levied against me are meritless and I will mount a vigorous defense in court to clear my name.

I look forward to being fully vindicated and exonerated ending any and all questions relating to my affiliation with Innate [Immunotherapeutics]…

As I fight to clear my name rest assured I will continue to work hard for the people and constituents of the 27th Congressional District of New York and I will remain on the ballot running for reelection this November.

On January 23, 2017, Wolf Blitzer questioned Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY) about Innate Immunotherapeutics. Collins was arrested and charged with securities fraud, wire fraud and false statements stemming from an alleged insider trading scheme on August 8, 2018. Lawyers for Collins said the congressman would be “completely vindicated.”
